The aim is to raise £10,000 through the sale of the Sea Shanty rum, whose bottles have been designed exclusively for the campaign.
Sea Shanty rum is produced at Banchory’s Burn O’Bennie Distillery and bottled by Ardent Spirits on-site.
The Scottish rum recipe is based on the Sea Shanty ‘wellermen’ song which talks about ‘sugar and tea and rum’.
The RNLI is a charity with over 200 years of history and the Aberdeen lifeboat station dates back to 1802. It is run and managed by volunteers.
Proceeds from the sales will go towards much needed equipment for Aberdeen’s lifeboat station including life jackets, PPE and ongoing maintenance and operating costs.
Mike Bain of Ardent Spirits, said: "We know the Aberdeen lifeboat station is an incredibly important charity that relies on funds from the public.
"The sea shanty viral trend made us think about how we could create something that would allow us to back to the RNLI.
"Our sea shanty rum sales will hopefully go towards equipment for the Aberdeen branch so the team can continue to help those in need on and offshore."
Jamee Kirkpatrick of RNLI Aberdeen, added: "We're delighted that Ardent Spirits has chosen to raise funds for RNLI Aberdeen through the launch of their latest rum.
"We are always humbled and so grateful when local businesses want to support us, and this donation will go toward ensuring that volunteer crews have everything that we need to save lives at sea as we head into what we suspect is going to be a busy summer for the lifeboat crew."
Sea shanties became a craze earlier this year following a viral TikTok video, with Scottish singer and former postie Nathan Evans becoming a star off the back of the trend.
Sea shanties are a type of “work song” that was once a common fixture of most maritime settings.
They were sung to pass the time and make the hard graft of life at sea a little more bearable, and could often be heard ringing through the sails of large merchant ships.
Ardent Spirits recently donated over £50,000 to the River Dee Trust towards its project to restore natural foliage to the upper reaches of the River Dee with the donation going towards planting 100,000 trees.
The Sea Shanty rum is priced at £28.50 and available online.
