Scran mini series: Celebrating women in the food and drink industry

A new Scran mini series, set to run for the month of March, is now live.

In honour of International Women’s Day on the 8 March, a new Scran mini series will hear from women across the food and drink sector in Scotland.

The Scran mini series will feature women in brewing, wine, rum and whisky, as well as female chefs and business owners.

These women will share their experiences of working in the food and drink sector, answering questions about how the industry has evolved since they joined as well as sharing what advice they’d give to others looking to get into their specialism.

Each short feature will go live every Monday and Friday from the 5- 26 March. Join us weekly for some interesting conversations.

Our short series debut begins with Diana Thompson who has travelled the world learning about the craft of wine.

Next up, Gemma Paterson discusses her role within the whisky industry as global brand ambassador for The Balvenie where she connects with drinkers around the world, telling stories and sharing drams.

Next we hear from Giselle Dye, who is a co founder and Director of Bellfield Brewery, a microbrewery in Edinburgh’s Abbeyhill that produces exclusively gluten free and vegan beer.

Jacine is co-founder of Matugga Distillers, which launched the first rum distillery in Central Scotland in 2018.

Together with her husband Paul (head distiller), Jacine produces award-winning artisan rums that are handcrafted from scratch at the family-owned distillery in Livingston.

Listen to Julie's episode

Julie is a Malaysian cook, food writer and broadcaster from Glasgow who owns Julie's Kopitiam, a small Malaysian night time cafe in Shawlands.

Listen to Rachel's episode

Rachel, who is the managing director of Hidden Lane Brewery in Glasgow, started her career in hospitality aged just 13 - and this sparked a lifelong passion for the industry.

She is hugely enthusiastic about all things food and drink and her brewery's organic nature - using only the best of ingredients - perfectly sums up her ethos.
